A 3-month-old child died at the hospital in July and now the child's father has been arrested on suspicion of first-degree reckless homicide.

Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald said in a press release on Wednesday, Nov. 22, that Curtis Strand, 31, of Haugen, had been arrested.

On July 9, at 5:29 a.m., a 911 call reported a 3-month-old was not breathing. Lakeview Medical Center ambulance, sheriff's deputies and Bear Lake first responders were paged to the address in the 300 block of Third Street, Haugen.

The child was flown from LMC in Rice Lake to Marshfield Medical Center. The child was pronounced deceased on July 11.

"A four-month investigation into this case, which consisted of interviews and confirming autopsy results, lead to the arrest of the father," said Fitzgerald. Formal charges are pending from the Barron County District Attorney's Office, he said.

The investigation into this case continues by the Barron County Sheriff’s Department and the Barron County Medical Examiner’s Office.
