Marlys M. Galoff, 92, Menomonie, Wis., passed away Sunday, Nov. 26, 2017, at Mayo Clinic Health System, Menomonie.

Marlys was born March 16, 1925, in the Township of Stanton, Dunn County, to Ernest and Myrtle (Behling) Hellendrung. She was baptized and confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church in Menomonie.

On June 15, 1946, she married Gordon Galoff at Peace Lutheran Church.

She attended Peck School near Boyceville to complete her eighth grade education. After graduating from Boyceville High School in 1943, she received a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Eau Claire State College. She received her master’s degree in 1963.

Marlys taught elementary students for four years in all grade levels at rural schools in Eau Claire and Dunn counties. She also taught five years with the Boyceville School District and 24 years at North School with Menomonie School District.

She was an active member of Dunn County Retired Teachers and a member for several years of The Alpha Tau Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority.

She was also a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Menomonie, and taught Sunday and Bible school for several years.

In retirement, Marlys volunteered for 14 years in the Gift Shop at Memorial Hospital and for 15 years delivered meals for the Senior Center. She enjoyed flower gardening, reading, traveling, crafts, baking and making quilts. She and her husband enjoyed square dancing for many years. They were members of several dance clubs and 500 card clubs.

Surviving are her children Susan Donica of Barron, Karen (Jerry) Birkholz of Paynesville, Minn., Sandra (John) Clark of Wisconsin Rapids and James (Sue) Galoff of Menomonie; grandchildren Johnny Donica, Christopher (Deanne) Donica, Patrick (Kim) Donica, Kim (Randy) Cook, Scott Shoemaker, Matt Shoemaker, Jamie (Kevin) Riedel, Nikki Shaw, Brad (Wanda) Galoff, Carolyn (Chris) Nelson and Jennifer (Mike) Bartlett; great-grandchildren Olivia and Alaina Riedel, Hayden Shaw, Grace, Ethan, Cody, Madison, Isabell, Brayden, Mackenzie, Aiden and Chloe Donica, Kadence, Kira and Randy Cook, Evan and Allison Bartlett, and Michaela, Alexandra, Catherine and Victoria Nelson; a sister-in-law Corrine Hellendrung of Menomonie; as well as other relatives and friends.

Marlys was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years; her parents; father and mother-in-law Edward and Olga Galoff; brothers Byron and James Hellendrung; a sister-in-law Norma Hellendrung; a son-in-law John Donica; a granddaughter Mary Shoemaker; and a nephew Gary Hellendrung.

Services will be held at noon Saturday, Dec. 2, from St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, with Pastor Aaron Schulz officiating and burial at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held an hour prior to services at the church.

Memorials are suggested to Stepping Stone of Dunn County, 1602 Stout Rd., Menomonie, St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or Menomonie Theatre Guild in memory of Marlys Galoff.
