Accident scene

A flatbed truck removes what appears to be the wreckage of a white sedan from the site of this accident near U.S. Hwy. 8 and Eighth Avenue in the town of Clinton

A three-mile segment of U.S. Hwy. 8 was closed for much of a three-hour period earlier today, Thursday, Sept. 13, 2018, after a crash involving at least one vehicle, according to Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald and local witnesses.

The accident occurred about half a mile west of the intersection of Hwy. 8 and Eighth Street (also known as Rabbit Trail Road).

Authorities closed the highway from Eighth Avenue to County Hwy. P at Almena, and rerouted traffic onto two parallel roads, including 13th Avenue (to the south of U.S. Hwy. 8) and 15th Avenue, to the north.

At about 10:30 a.m. today, a flatbed truck was seen removing the wreckage of at least one vehicle.

The Sheriff’s Department posted a notice on its Facebook page that U.S. Hwy. 8 had been closed due to an accident, but the announcement included no further information.
