Financing a remodeling project at the home of Jayme Closs’ aunt and uncle is the main goal of a fundraiser and celebration planned at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 4, 2019, at the Barron High School commons.

Organized by Melissa (Balts) Smith, daughter of Bill Balts, the fundraiser is intended to help Jayme and her aunt and uncle, Bob and Jennifer Smith, with general family expenses and to make home alterations to better accommodate Jayme.

The 13-year-old Barron girl has been living with the couple since escaping her accused kidnapper in January 2019.

The May 4 event includes live music, a spaghetti meal, served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., a short program at 2 p.m. in the gymnasium, and a live auction to follow.

Three other fundraisers will take place throughout the day, including a silent auction, paddle raffle and Chinese auction.

A free-will donation will be taken at the door for the meal.

Donations can be made by calling Bill Balts at (715) 931-7940 or emailing

Volunteers are needed to help. Those who are interested should call Balts or email to the address above.

Donors are invited to drop off items at the Barron County Sheriff’s Department, at the County Justice Center. Donations will be accepted through Friday, April 26.
