An unidentified person was pronounced dead at the scene of a three-vehicle crash near the intersection of Wisconsin Hwy. 48 and 8 1/2 Street on Friday morning, Feb.8, 2019, according to Barron County Sheriff's Department dispatch logs.

An official press release had yet to be released as of Friday evening.

The crash was reported by multiple witnesses shortly after 8 a.m. today, dispatch logs said. Road conditions were described as "icy" in the aftermath of a nine-inch snowfall that struck Barron County Thursday, Feb 7, followed by intense cold and high northwest winds.

According to officers on the scene, at least four other individuals were among those who were drivers and/or passengers in the vehicles involved. Later radio transmissions indicate the four refused medical transport.

The Barron County Medical Examiner was summoned to the scene at about 8:15 a.m. According to later radio transmissions, the victim's personal belongings were taken from the scene and delivered to Cumberland Hospital.

Dispatch logs indicate Hwy. 48 was closed for more than three hours, from 8:17 a.m. to 11:37 a.m
