David Blumer, known best for his amazing “themed” offerings during concessions for Barron Spotlighters’ productions, is launching his directing debut with a musical loosely adapted from the movie of the same name.
It has taken ten years for David’s dream of doing “Raggedy Ann and Andy” to become a reality – in large part because the show doesn’t really exist, at least not an in-stage version. Hours of research finally brought him into contact with the son of the composer, Nick Raposo, who has become the owner of the music since the composer, Joe Raposo, passed away in 1989.
Raposo gave Blumer permission to use any and all of the songs and sent, right from his father’s vault, the paper sheet music including lyrics, tune, and chord structure. After more research, a pianist with the skills to put the chord structures on paper was found, and David was off and running.
Raggedy Ann is the beloved doll of Marcella, a little girl with a magical nursery. Whenever Marcella leaves the room, Raggedy Ann and her brother, Andy, along with a nursery full of colorful toys, come to life. When Marcella receives a beautiful French doll named Babette for her seventh birthday, Raggedy Ann does everything she can to make her feel at home. Babette hates the nursery and wants to go back to Paris; however, before she can make her escape, she is kidnapped by a Pirate Captain. The adventure continues from there as Raggedy Ann and Andy set out to rescue poor Babette regardless of her unfriendly nature.
The cast is made up of youth and adults from Barron and many surrounding areas in Barron County. Starring in the show are Lana Blumer (Chetek) as Raggedy Ann and Sam Zook (Rice Lake) as Raggedy Andy.
