A Red Cross blood drive will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, 2018, at Cameron High School, 750 S. First St., Cameron.

The drive is part of the American Red Cross’ latest effort to attract healthy donors to maintain blood supply as the flue season approaches.

According to St. Paul, Minn., Red Cross spokesperson Sue Thesenga, blood and platelets can only be given by donors who are feeling well.

If you have received a flu shot, there is no waiting period to give blood or platelets, as long as the donor is symptom-free and fever-free.

Donors of all blood types, especially type O, are needed this fall after Hurricanes Michael and Florence forced the cancellation of about 200 blood drives, causing approximately 7,000 units of blood and platelets to go uncollected.
