Ice fishing anglers will compete for the biggest fish on the Chetek Chain at the 20th annual Chetek Hydroflites Ice Fishing Contest on Saturday, Feb. 9. Pictured above is Don Vana, who won the adult panfish category with a 1.47-pound crappie he caught during last year’s contest.

The 20th annual Chetek Hydroflites Water Ski Show Team Ice Fishing Contest is the second ice fishing contest hosted on frozen water in Chetek and is set for Saturday, Feb. 9, from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. on the Chetek Chain of Lakes. More than $15,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded at the event.

First-, second- and third-place winners in the adult division for northern pike, walleye, bass and panfish will be awarded Chamber Bucks. 

In the 14-and-under contest for kids, first-place winners will be awarded a tip-up and a fishing chair. There will also be prizes for the second place. 

Besides ice fishing prizes, participants will have the chance to win raffle drawings. Raffle tickets are available and will be sold at the contest for $5 each or five for $20.

Raffle prizes will include a Henry Big Boy .44 mag (grand prize/first place); a Louisiana pellet grill (second place); a Mission MXB-360 crossbow (third place); a Mathews Creed bow (fourth prize); an Ion X 40 Volt 8-inch ice auger (fifth prize); a Vexilar FL-20 Pro Pack II (sixth prize); an ION 8-inch ice auger (seventh prize); an Eskimo 949 pop-up ice fishing shelter (eighth prize); a $250 gift certificate to Barney’s Meats (ninth prize); a one-day skid steer rental from Barron Supply (10th prize); dinner once per month for a year at Gilligans (11th prize); and a one-day pontoon rental from Chetek Marina (12th prize). Raffle prize winners need not be present to win.

There will also be several other major prizes raffled off during the ice fishing contest, including rifles, hand guns, ION augers, fish shelters and many other prizes.

Registration and fish weigh-in will take place on the ice in front of Gilligans. There will also be food and refreshments available in the same location throughout the day. There will be hot dogs from Barney’s Meats and chili. 

Proceeds from the contest go toward the Chetek Hydroflites ski team and their youth program.
