Agnes L. Nelson, 99, Barron, Wis., went into the presence of her Savior and Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2019, at Monroe Manor Assisted Living Facility, Barron.
She was born Feb. 23, 1919, at Cameron, the youngest of five daughters, to Amund and Olena Lee. She attended Cameron Grade School. Agnes left school at age 16 to care for her ill mother after her father’s untimely death.
During WWII, she worked in Eau Claire at the Presto plant, boxing ammunition in support of the war effort. Later, she was employed at the Cameron Box Factory.
On June 11, 1943, she married Walter A. Nelson at Barron. God blessed them with two children, Linda and Allen.
Agnes enjoyed caring for her family and would help her friends and neighbors with her skills of hairdressing. Sewing and baking were her joy. She took special pride in her pies and breads.
Agnes was an active member of First Lutheran Church, Barron, and assisted the women’s group there with many and varied church functions.
She loved her family, especially enjoying the visits of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are a son Allen (Debera) of Rice Lake; a son-in-law David (Karen) Longmire of Rice Lake; grandchildren Gerilynn (Erich) Hoeft, Zach Nelson and Lee (Melissa) Longmire; great-grandchildren Taylor Woller, Finnegan Cody, Charlton Longmire, Isaac Hoeft, Lukas Hoeft and Elijah Hoeft; along with many caring nieces, nephews and good friends.
Agnes was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter Linda Longmire, a granddaughter Rebecca Cody, and four sisters.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, from First Lutheran Church, Barron, with Rev. Ron Mathews officiating and burial at Wayside Cemetery, Barron.
Visitation will be held an hour prior to services at the church.
