A man from Bruce, Wis., has been sentenced to three years in the state penitentiary at Waupun in connection with his seventh drunk driving conviction, according to Barron County Circuit Court documents.

Wayne A. Kurtzhals, 63, 1105 N. First St., Bruce, was given credit for 58 days already served behind bars when he was sentenced Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2018.

After his prison sentence, Kurtzhals will be on probation another two years. His driver’s license was revoked for three years.

A complaint filed in February 2018 said a Rice Lake police officer saw Kurtzhals going south in the northbound lane of a city street. The officer watched as the car corrected itself, swerved multiple times, crossed over the center line, and then almost went into a ditch on the west side of the road.

A blood sample taken after the arrest determined Kurtzhals had a blood alcohol content of .213 at the time, more than twice the state’s legal limit of intoxication.

A records check showed Kurtzhals had six prior drunk driving convictions dating back to 1991. His driver’s license indicated he was forbidden to drive with a blood alcohol content greater than .02.
