Woman hurt in Barron ATV accident

A resident of St. Croix County suffered undetermined injuries Monday afternoon, June 3, 2019, when the all-terrain vehicle she was riding went into a curb alongside North Mill Street in the city of Barron. According to Barron Police Officer Nathan Emmons, the victim was a woman from Star Prairie, Wis., who was accompanied by her husband, who was on a second machine. The two were southbound on Mill Street when the crash occurred. They were unfamiliar with the city’s ATV routes and were on their way back to the trail at Kiwanis Park when the crash took place. The woman’s four-wheeler evidently veered toward the curb and she was thrown off the machine, Emmons said. Mayo Clinic Ambulance responded to the scene along with the Barron Police Department. At first, a helicopter was summoned to the scene, but it was later determined the victim’s injuries weren’t serious enough to require her to be airlifted for further treatment. She was taken to Mayo Clinic Health System-Northland. The investigation has been turned over to the St. Croix County Sheriff’s Department, Emmons added. Photo by Bob Zientara
