A pair of Rice Lake residents were issued citations by a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources warden during December 2022 for alleged ice fishing violations, Barron County Circuit Court records said.
Both citations were filed Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2023.
In the first instance, ice angler Nathan John Hubbell, 44, rural Rice Lake, was cited on the afternoon of Dec. 10, 2022 on Lake Desair, northeast of Rice Lake.
He was seen by a warden fishing with four rod/reel combos. He was with a friend and, between the two of them, they had seven lines in the water, the citation said.
It is illegal to ice fish with more than three lines. The fine was $182.70.
On Dec. 20, Rice Lake resident Jacob T. Gilbert, 33, was observed fishing on Lake Montanis, just south of Rice Lake, with a tip-up, treble hook and minnow. But he didn’t have a license. The fine was $230.90, court records said.
