A complaint filed Wednesday, May 29, 2019, alleges that child sex charges against a 30-year-old defendant could result in more than 100 years in prison, Barron County Circuit Court records said.

The defendant was identified as Kyle C. Korthof, 3W8531 Carlton Road, Spooner.

The three felony charges include repeated sex assault of a child, incest, and indecent exposure.

The investigation began May 17, when Rice Lake police were alerted by the Barron County Department of Health and Human Services that a child sex assault had allegedly taken place at a Rice Lake home.

The victim was a 12-year-old girl who lives in the home. Police reported that, at the time, the defendant also lived there with his wife and two other children, a 6-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy.

After an initial investigation, police arranged for the victim to meet with a forensic children’s interviewer on May 22 at Hayward. The child described alleged sex assaults, which she said dated back to when she was in fourth grade.

In a separate interview on May 24, the defendant allegedly admitted to having sexual contact with the girl over the past year.

The defendant appeared in court for the first time on May 29. He was freed on $2,500 cash bond pending a preliminary hearing today, June 5.
