A routine traffic stop in Rice Lake has led to a felony charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated for a Clayton man, according to Barron County Circuit Court records.
A complaint filed Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2022, identifies the defendant as Robert F. Swantish Jr., 54, Clayton.
He was identified as the driver of a vehicle stopped in Rice Lake on Nov. 8.
The arresting officer said he stopped the vehicle after discovering that there was a warrant for the owner’s arrest from Polk County on an open case involving a charge of marijuana possession. Records also indicated that the defendant’s license had been revoked.
The driver, later identified as the defendant, allegedly smelled of marijuana. There were two passengers in the vehicle, including a 7-year-old girl. A second officer arrived to help. During a search of the vehicle, officers found a marijuana pipe on the console with residue that tested positive for THC.
Records show Swantish had three prior convictions for operating while intoxicated in Barron and Polk counties, dating back to 2002.
The latest complaint charges the defendant with operating while intoxicated, fourth offense, with a minor child in the vehicle, driving while revoked, and failure to install an ignition interlock. If convicted, he could face up to 13 and one-half years behind bars and/or fines of up to $23,000.
