A former Clayton resident will be sentenced April 14, 2023, after reaching a plea deal in connection with an alleged assault on a 17-year-old girl during a Sept. 14, 2022, domestic quarrel at a Rice Lake motel, according to Barron County Circuit Court records.
Defendant Jordan S. Smith, 24, now of 2006 21 3/8 St., Unit 416, Rice Lake, is free on bond after pleading guilty to a reduced misdemeanor battery charge in connection with what had been a felony child abuse charge.
In addition, Smith pleaded guilty to a pair of felony charges which include bail jumping and possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, court records said.
Prosecutors asked the court to dismiss another felony charge, possession of a controlled substance with intent near a school.
According to a complaint filed Sept. 15, 2022, a witness alleged Smith repeatedly struck a 17-year-old girl during a Sept. 14 quarrel at the motel.
Officers went to the motel and found a girl, later identified as the victim. She had two black eyes, a facial injury, and a bruised left arm.
At the time of the incident, Smith was free on bond in connection with an unrelated drug offense. Conditions of bond required him to commit no new crimes, court records said.
