An investigation that began in October 2022 has resulted in the arrest of a 31-year-old Rice Lake man on multiple child sex related charges, Barron County Circuit Court documents said.
A complaint filed Tuesday, March 7, 2023, identifies the defendant as Brandon J. Kuruz, 612 W. Marshall St., Rice Lake. He is free on a $10,000 signature bond pending an adjourned initial appearance today, Wednesday, March 15, court records added.
The complaint said the Rice Lake investigation began Feb. 3 when city police were contacted by the grandfather of the alleged victim, who lives in Eau Claire.
The witness said he learned that the girl had revealed the information last fall to a counselor at Eau Claire North High School.
The complaint said that the incidents allegedly took place in Rice Lake during a period of time lasting from April 30 through May 8, 2022.
The case was first investigated by a detective with the Eau Claire Police Department, who interviewed the alleged victim during October 2022.
He provided information to three Rice Lake officers, one of whom interviewed the alleged victim on Feb. 10, 2023. Police also obtained text messages between the girl and the defendant.
In an interview with Rice Lake police on Feb. 24, the defendant allegedly admitted to having sex with the girl, the complaint added.
The defendant is charged with two counts of child sex assault, each of which carries a maximum sentence of up to 40 years in prison and/or a $100,000 fine.
