National qualifier!

Barron freshman Fran Peterson has qualified for the Cross Country Junior National Championships to be held March 7-14 at Truckee, Calif., near Lake Tahoe. Peterson skied her best race to date last weekend at the challenging Michigan Tech Trails in Houghton, Mich. After four weekends of racing, Peterson earned a place on the Great Lakes Division team for the National Championships. The Great Lakes Division encompasses Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky. The top four girls and boys from each age group were selected for the team. Peterson finished as the top U16 girl in the division. She raced at Duluth, Minn., Cable, Wis., and twice at Houghton this winter. She finished the season with two very strong races in Houghton last weekend (Feb. 15-16), where she won Saturday’s 5K skate race by 27 seconds and placed second by a few seconds in Sunday’s 5K classic race (pictured above, right).
